Is Telecom for Me?

Most Utahns rely on services from telecommunications infrastructure to work and live in modern society. As these technologies continue to change, the demand for wireless infrastructure is growing. However, the industry faces a skills gap that threatens our ability to keep up with the expansion of wireless broadband coverage.

As a telecommunications apprentice, you will work side by side with an experienced journeyman to learn the skills of the trade. You’ll also participate in classroom instruction that produces competency and pride, helping you become a true craftsman. You will learn to:

  • Install the network of low-voltage cabling that is used for video, voice and data or other low-voltage signaling
  • Install voice and data outlets at work stations as well as punch-down blocks and cross connects in telephone rooms

Whether the work is in new construction or in existing office or manufacturing space, telecommunications apprentices learn to take pride in the work that they can perform. You will start earning a livable wage as soon as you start working and receive pay advancements throughout the apprenticeship based on performance. Upon completion, you will receive industry-recognized credentials and a nationally recognized certification from the U.S. Department of Labor.
